Hidden Lakes Restoration Project

The Hidden Lakes are on private land beside the Ruamahanga River and hold special significance. The lakes were formed as a result of the Wairarapa earthquake in 1855 and today this special place is one of six sites on the upper reaches of the Ruamahanga River that we are currently supporting with restoration plantings, ecological weed control, and predator trapping.

In this video, Trevor Thompson (QEII National Trust Regional Representative for the Wairarapa) and Joseph Potangaroa of Potangaroa Education share their knowledge about the significance of this site on the same day that students from Chanel College, Masterton help with planting 1000 trees gifted by Trees That Count
